Scheduled backups, manual backups and snapshots, and how to restore them.
Backups or snapshots?
What it is: A full copy of the VM, stored separately from it.: A point-in-time state of the VM disks, kept with the VM.
Good for: Recovering from data loss or a broken VM.: A quick undo before an upgrade or a risky change.
Restore: Restore the VM from the backup.: Roll the VM back to the snapshot.
Scheduled backups
Turn on backups when you create a VM, weekly or daily. They add 10% (weekly) or 20% (daily) to the VM price.
Take a backup or snapshot now
On the VM Backups tab:
Create backup: give it a name and description, choose whether to compress it, and optionally leave out some disks.
Create snapshot: give it a name. You can include the memory state, and quiesce the file system so files are consistent.
Restore
Choose Restore next to a backup, or Roll back next to a snapshot, and confirm. The VM goes back to the state it was in at that time, so anything written since is lost.
