How to deploy a Joomla site on ByteNests
Install Joomla with one click, connect your domain, turn on HTTPS and find your way around the administrator.
Joomla is a good fit for content-heavy sites with many sections, menus and user groups. On ByteNests hosting it installs like any other one-click app: its own files, database and certificate, ready in minutes.
Install Joomla
Open your hosting account and choose Create website. No hosting account yet? Create one under Hosting → Create.
Choose the domain, or a subdomain such as portal.example.com.
Pick Joomla.
Enter the site name, and the administrator username, email address and password.
Leave Free SSL certificate on and choose Create website. Keep the page open until it shows the login details.
Prefer one flow for everything? The Website wizard can register the domain, create hosting, install Joomla and create a mailbox in one go. See Launch a website in one go.
Connect the domain and HTTPS
Check the hosting account’s DNS tab until the domain and www show the right records, then issue the certificate on the SSL tab and turn on Force HTTPS.
Into the administrator
The Joomla administrator is at https://yourdomain.com/administrator. Sign in with the details from the install, then:
Set the site name, metadata and search-friendly URLs in Global Configuration.
Build your menus and categories before adding articles; Joomla’s structure is easier to get right early.
Add a mailbox on the hosting account’s Email tab and set it as the site’s sender address in the mail settings of Global Configuration.
Files, database and PHP
The File manager tab edits templates and uploads files in the browser. FTP accounts are on the FTP tab; public files are in /web.
The site’s database is on the Databases tab, with phpMyAdmin. If you change its password, update configuration.php too, or the site loses its connection.
Change the PHP version under Manage next to the site. Check that your Joomla version and extensions support it first.
Updates and backups
Take a backup on the Backups tab before Joomla or extension updates. If something breaks, restore the files and database from it.
